New pumps at McLaren Hospital to reduce medication errors

By | November 2, 2018

Here is Health Data Management’s weekly roundup of health IT contract wins and go-lives:

* McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital in Michigan has integrated the Infusomat Space Large Volume Pumps of B. Braun Medical with help from Cerner, its electronic health record vendor. Nurses send infusion order data to B. Braun’s pumps. Real-time data is then transmitted from a pump through B. Braun’s Dose Trac infusion management software to the EHR platform for consistent and frequent automated documentation. Auto programming is designed to improve patient outcomes by eliminating manual programming.

* Winchester Medical Center in Virginia is live on clinician education software from Qstream that uses science, data and mobile technology to prompt meaningful behavior change by clinicians. Faced with staff shortages and budget restrictions, the hospital could not offer off-shift education options to the nursing staff. The curricula of Qstream enables nurses to complete all of their education during normal working hours. “Qstream helps our nurses to bridge knowledge gaps in just minutes a day and all during their shifts,” says Bethann Mendez, director of critical care. “We’ve seen significant user engagement and financial return.”

* Rush University Medical Center in Chicago is working with Connexient to integrate the vendor’s MediNav software with the MyRush Mobile app for patients that will support indoor GPS with appointment scheduling in the Epic MyChart. The software also gives users access to lab results, appointment information, current medications, immunization history and more information on their mobile devices. “By weaving together indoor navigation and location services with MyChart, we are providing the patient with easy to use tools to not only find their way to appointments, but to be their own advocates upon arrival,” says CIO Shafiq Rab.

* Island Hospital, a 43-bed Level lll trauma care facility in Washington State is live on software from Access to capture patient electronic signatures at the point of registration and in several clinical areas. The hospital gave up on similar technology that lacked functionality, as patients were unable to see a representation of forms they were being asked to sign unless the forms were printed and handed to them. Patients now can see what they are signing on the signature pad and the hospital now also gives the same functionality to Spanish-speaking patients.

* Florida Hospital has selected the Agfa DR 800 Multi-Purpose Digital Imaging System for three facilities to improve delivery of care. Installation of the system will enable the facilities to advance Florida Hospital’s value-based care program. The system can operate around the clock and is expected to increase productivity, lower dosages and improve image quality.
