A large study in the International Journal of Epidemiology reported that a high intake of protein from meat is associated with an increased of dying prematurely from cardiovascular disease. This is independent of the fat content of of the meat.
In contrast a high intake of protein from nuts and seeds was linked to a greatly reduced cardiovascular death rate. Scientists are not certain about the cause of this disparity, but it is interesting that Adventists have relatively long average life expectancy. They also tend to have healthy plant-based diets.
