Get the Lowdown on Cat Allergies

By | April 13, 2018

Many cat owners also suffer from cat allergies. So, why do we bother keeping the pets then? Well, if you are a cat lover then that is a silly question because there are simply no way you could part with your pet even if she makes you sneeze or itch now and then.

You may not be able to completely rid yourself of cat allergies but you can help to manage it somewhat. If someone in your home suffers from cat allergies, there are some things that you can do to help them. Cat dander is very light so it floats about the air in your home, especially if your pets like to run around the home a lot.

Letting your feline friend sleep on the bed is not a good idea if you suffer from cat allergies. This could be a hard habit to break if this is something both of you are use to. You may need to close the door and keep them out of your room altogether. Believe me, this is something that I have had to do. By the way, my eyes do not itch as much now!

If your pet is sleeping on your bed then make sure that, you wash the bedding at least once a week to remove all the dander. Use hot water for the wash as well.

Some people even use air filters or HEPA air purifiers in their homes too. This is not something that I have tried but it does help clean the air in your home. They help with other air borne allergens as well.

Another tip to help reduce the symptoms of cat allergies is to use a good HEPA vacuum cleaner. I vacuum frequently to help remove the allergens from the floor. In fact, vacuum the furniture frequently as well. If you pet has a bed or favorite chair then obviously that needs a regular cleaning as well.

Some people recommend gently rubbing a micro fiber cloth on your pets coat to help remove visible dander. Check with your vet to see if there are any products such as mild shampoos that would help reduce the dander. Wash you hands immediately after petting and do not rub your eyes after petting your cat. These are just a few tips to help protect you against cat allergies. Visit my website for more helpful cat information.
