I am becoming a really big fan of the Antipodes brand. Previously I tried their Juliet Skin-Brightening Gel Cleanser which I loved and a few months back I decided to explore more from the brand so I picked two of their face creams from LoveLula* to test and review on my blog.
I picked Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream as I felt that Esse Hydro Moisturiser wasn’t enough for my skin in winter and I needed something more moisturising. Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream is suitable for all skin types but it’s especially beneficial for those who are prone to breakouts as it contains anti-bacterial manuka honey which helps to keep skin clear.
I also decided to get Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream which is an anti-ageing face cream great for dry skin. This natural face cream had some great reviews online so I thought it would be good to mention it on my blog. Since my skin is not dry, I gave this to my sister to test so that I can then report on how she got on.
About Antipodes
I see more and more people (bloggers) talking about Antipodes and writing about how great their products are. It’s one of the reasons why I got really curious about the brand and started testing their products. And I am really pleased with the products I managed to test so far.
The brand is certainly worth investing in as you get really good quality and products that actually work. No wonder, since Antipodes believe in natural skincare with scientific validation which means all the ingredients they use are tested for their efficacy before taking the product to the market.
Antipodes never test on animals though and all the scientific research they do is cruelty-free.
Antipodes use only sustainably harvested forest extracts and premium natural ingredients cultivated in a pollution-free environment. Their range is vegetarian approved and some of their products are also certified organic. The brand is now sold in 14 countries across four continents.
Antipodes’ focus is on anti-ageing and they specialise in a market 25+.
Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream Review
PACKAGING
Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream comes in a small brown glass jar (60ml) with a plastic lid which is better than the entirely plastic packaging, I guess. I know some people have issues with jars as they don’t think they are very hygienic but it really doesn’t bother me at all. The jar comes in a recyclable box made with cardboard from sustainable forests.
SCENT
The cream has a pleasant scent, not overpowering at all. The final scent is probably down to a combination of various ingredients but Antipodes did make an effort in trying to make the cream smell nice by adding pure plant fragrance of vanilla pod and mandarin. Although interestingly, when I smell the cream, vanilla and mandarin scents definitely don’t stand out. Maybe I can smell a hint of vanilla but I am not sure whether I can smell the mandarin at all. Not an issue for me though.
TEXTURE
Vanilla Pod Hydrating Cream feels very light and it’s easy to apply. In the beginning, it feels a little bit sticky (due to manuka honey) but this feeling disappears after a minute or so, once the cream has sunk into the skin. It doesn’t take too long to absorb so you can easily apply make-up on top after a few minutes.
Although the cream feels quite light, it’s actually really nourishing and my skin feels really nice and moisturised afterwards. Since I’ve been using it I haven’t experienced any dry patches whatsoever. This cream is perfect for combination skin in winter.
INGREDIENTS
The highlight of this natural face cream for me is definitely its anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Manuka honey does not only help to heal any blemishes, but it also helps to prevent breakouts due to its anti-bacterial properties. I don’t know whether it’s this or something else, but since I’ve been using this moisturiser, my skin looks amazing, I rarely get breakouts these days (even before my period!).
Manuka honey is also anti-ageing and helps to hydrate the skin. It can even repair cellular damage and lessen scarring.
The other anti-ageing ingredient in this cream is rosehip oil which also helps to reduce the appearance of scars and wrinkles (it contains high levels of vitamin A and C and essential fatty acids).
The other ingredient worth mentioning is a revolutionary antioxidant Vinanza Grape from Marlborough sauvignon blanc grape seeds. This antioxidant extract is there to improve the elasticity and firmness of the skin.
A full list of ingredients:
Aqua (water), Butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, squalane (vegetable) extract, Leptospermum scoparium mel (Active 20+ manuka) honey, Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, Macadamia ternifolia (macadamia nut) oil, Rosa canina (rosehip) oil, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, lecithin (vegetable) extract, Vitis vinifera (Vinanza® Grape grape seed) extract, Macropiper excelsum (kawakawa leaf) extract, gluconolactone, sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate, essential oil fragrances of vanilla pod and mandarin: coumarin†, d-Limonene†, linalool†, citral†, geraniol†. † Component of essential oil
THE RESULTS
I feel my skin is in much better condition now that I’ve been using this cream for almost two months. I rarely get breakouts and I have no issues with dry patches. This cream definitely hydrates the skin really well. What’s more, fine lines on my forehead appear to be reduced although this could be a combined result of other beauty products I’ve been using as well. But I have no doubt I’ve discovered a great natural face moisturiser, perfect for my skin type (combination, prone to breakouts).
Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream Review
Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream is a face cream I gave my sister to test so that I could see whether it would help her dry and sensitive skin. She’s been using it at least once a day (night time) but when used twice a day (also in the morning) she would get better results. Her skin can get very dry in winter so she does need something extra nourishing for this season.
This night cream from Antipodes seems to work really well for her skin. Since she’s been using it, she doesn’t struggle with facial skin dryness anymore. Her skin condition has really improved and I think, quite dramatically. Before, she would complain that none of the natural face creams she has helps with her dry skin (or they only help a little bit but not enough). Now, this problem seems to be a thing of a past, thanks to Avocado Pear Nourishing face cream!
This Antipodes cream is also great for her sensitive skin and does not give her any reactions or rashes (something that happened very often with various creams in the past).
Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream is a very nourishing cream but not that thick and easy to apply. It absorbs quite quickly as well.
The only negative is probably the scent, which she doesn’t mind, but her husband is not a fan and he complains about it! The pure plant fragrance you will find in this cream is a combination of Ylang Ylang, jasmine & sandalwood.
This cream is also anti-ageing, with main ingredients being manuka honey, avocado oil and antioxidant Vinanza Grape.
Avocado oil is really beneficial for dry skin and it’s not only very effective at hydrating the skin but it also helps to increase collagen production and keep skin supple. It contains several beneficial nutrients for the skin such as omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E.
A full list of ingredients:
Aqua (water), Butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, squalane (vegetable) extract, Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, Leptospermum scoparium mel (Active 20+ manuka) honey, Macadamia ternifolia (macadamia nut) oil, Calendula officinalis (calendula) oil, Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, lecithin (vegetable) extract, gluconolactone, sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate, Vitis vinifera (Vinanza® Grapegrape seed) extract, tocopherol (Vitamin E), essential oil fragrances of sandalwood, ylang ylang and patchouli: benzyl benzoate†, benzyl salicylate†, citral†, d-Limonene†, linalool†, eugenol†, farnesol†, geraniol†, isoeugenol†. † Component of essential oil
The cream claims to boost the skin’s natural production of Type l and lll collagen and elastin by up to 92%.
I asked my sister whether she’s noticed any improvements in the appearance of her wrinkles and she told me she didn’t pay any attention to them so she cannot say whether they appear reduced now. But she did say she would try and pay more attention to them now and then tell me whether she notices anything different.
ANTIPODES ANTI-AGEING FACE CREAMS – THE FINAL VERDICT
I think Antipodes face creams are amazing and definitely worth trying out, especially if you are looking for something anti-ageing and something that would work on your fine lines. I loved Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream, it’s really good for combination and breakout-prone skin so I highly recommend it if you have this type of skin.
Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream is especially suitable for very dry skin and based on the feedback I received from my sister, it’s a really good face cream since it helps to get rid of a dry skin completely and does not cause any bad reactions on sensitive skin.
Apart from these two face creams, Antipodes also have some other face moisturisers to check: Antipodes Rejoice Light Organic Day Cream and Manuka Honey Skin-Brightening Light Day Cream.
Have you tried any products from Antipodes yet and what did you think?
