Staying fit and healthy is crucial especially at this age, you are more susceptible to certain kinds of ailments. Take for example diabetes, this chronic disease affects overweight and elderly people. So if you are overweight and at same time you’re aging, you are more vulnerable in developing this condition. One thing you can do is to lose weight and keep it off. But how exactly can you do that when you are in your 40’s? Losing weight gets harder as you get older. You eat the same kind of foods, the same amount, you exercise the same and these have worked for you over the past years. But all of a sudden you start noticing that you’re gradually gaining weight and it’s even harder to keep it off once you lose some.

The truth is, as we get older, our organs age with us too. So the way your body functions when you were younger is different now that you’re in your 40’s. The dilemma is how can you manage to stay healthy given this age? This is the time where you need to focus on your health more than ever. You also want to have regular check-ups to prevent any forming disease. Having a bone density check up will not hurt. To prevent bone loss, you can perform weight-bearing exercises. Take calcium supplements and eat foods which are high in calcium. Eat nutritious meals, exercise on a regular basis, cut back (if you can’t totally eliminate) on cigarettes and alcohol and of course, you need to find some time for you to relax. Find something that you really enjoy doing and at the same time make you moving and active.

There are a couple of foods that you want to include in your diet to help you maintain a healthy weight. Soy burgers are vegetarian burgers that taste so good, you wouldn’t even know that there is no slice of meat in it. Soy effectively lowers bad cholesterol level and it is rich in protein too. Soy beans are rich in soluble fiber which helps with the absorption of nutrients and metabolism of cholesterol. Low-sugar whole grain cereals are better options than your regular cereals because these are healthier and they’re a good source of fiber. Anything made with whole wheat is way better than those products made with refined ingredients.
