Meghan Markle's Purple and Red Outfit Was a Subtle Tribute to Princess Diana

By | January 15, 2019

Yesterday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had their very first engagement of 2019, and Meghan looked in-cred-ible. The Duchess (who’s known for typically wearing darker colors) stepped out in a bright red coat by Sentaler paired with a purple Aritizia dress—which we can all agree is a pretty unique color combination.

But, turns out these colors were a sartorial favorite of Princess Diana’s, and it’s pretty clear that Meghan was paying homage to her late mother-in-law. Not only did Diana wear this distinctive combo during a trip to Thailand in 1988:

She rocked it during a trip to Hong Kong in 1989:

This isn’t the first time Meghan’s channeled Diana’s style, and my personal favorite twinning moment kicks off the gallery below—when Meghan wore a patterned blue and white dress to a friend’s wedding that looked *just* like Di’s.
